Movement as Medicine.

Movement · Circulation · Self-healing

Qi Gong is a movement art based in Chinese medicine.

In practice, we use gentle, rhythmic movements to create circulation within the body. This flow of blood and breath activates and cleanses our systems, transforming the causes of disease and stimulating health. These classes are designed to enhance your understanding of movement as medicine.

The body contains an inherent self-healing capacity. Our beginning class series, Qi Gong Foundations, covers the basic principles and practices you need to establish Qi Gong as an ally for your life and health. Through regular practice, you learn to access and support the body’s innate movement toward dynamic wholeness.

Qi Gong is based in Chinese medicine, and understanding this system distills down to one foundational idea: movement creates circulation and circulation enhances health. In Qi Gong Foundations we’ll work with this principle in innovative ways, learning a vocabulary of simple movement patterns that create the basis for many traditional forms.

Monday and Thursday classes will alternate, with eight weeks devoted to a foundations curriculum, then eight weeks devoted to learning forms, and then back to foundations.

The cosmology that underlies Qi Gong is seasonal and cyclic, and so we return again and again to our foundational practices. Skill is developed through repetition, and we can learn something new or deepen our experience each time we return to the basics. You can join at any point in the series, knowing that whatever you missed will eventually cycle through again.

All classes are friendly to beginners and accessible to a range of physical abilities.
